TAKING CARE OF YOUR DIAMONDS

Diamonds are one of earth’s most elegant stones, and also one of the toughest. However, there are still many ways they can be damaged. Here are just a few methods for taking care of them, to ensure they stay looking their best:

  • Dust, dirt and general wear-and-tear – These are hard to avoid, but with regular cleaning their effect can be minimised.
  • Other diamonds – Avoid placing your diamonds together as they can scratch each other. It’s best to keep your diamonds separate from other diamonds, and from your other jewellery. A soft lined box or pouch is the perfect place to store them.
  • Excessive impact – Remove your diamonds if there is a risk of impact against hard surfaces, for example if you are playing sport.
  • Cosmetics, household chemicals and perfumes – Try to avoid bringing your diamonds into contact with these substances.
  • It is worth cleaning your diamonds on a regular basis to maintain their brilliance. We recommend having them professionally cleaned and, in between these visits, cleaning them yourself with Angus & Coote jewellery cleaner. Our specially formulated cleaning solution delivers excellent results.
  • Another risk to your diamonds is loss, particularly when they come loose from their settings. To prevent this, ask a professional jeweller to check your settings to ensure your stones are secure.
